EnsoData has released a new diagnostic service called EnsoHST Direct. The fully managed workflow is designed to help sleep practitioners scale their testing capacity without needing to purchase or handle devices themselves.

The service ships EnsoHST testing devices directly to patients. It also provides setup instructions and support. To address the common problem of night-to-night variability in sleep data, the service allows for up to seven nights of testing. After each night, patients get an in-app notification. This either confirms a successful study or prompts them to test for another night. EnsoData claims this system achieves a 97% patient success rate.

AI Scoring and Clinical Precision

Once the testing period is complete, artificial intelligence scores the results in minutes. The company states these AI-scored results offer high clinical precision. Specific metrics cited include 92% sensitivity for detecting sleep apnea and 100% specificity for moderate central sleep apnea. The mean error for the apnea-hypopnea index is reported as plus or minus one. The average difference in total sleep time between the EnsoHST device and a full polysomnogram is 5.5 minutes.

The overall turnaround time from the initial order date to the delivery of results is between one and five days.

Operational Model for Clinics

While EnsoData manages the logistics, the sleep practice or lab retains control over key clinical and administrative functions. The company processes patient payments. According to EnsoData, this model is suited for providers who want to eliminate device handling and shipping logistics. It also removes the patient setup burden from clinic staff.

Practitioners using the service interpret the studies themselves. They also maintain control over their own billing workflows. The model is designed to help clinics scale their testing capacity without hiring additional team members. It aims to accelerate testing without increasing internal complexity.

Company Goals and Patient Impact

Bobby Cockrill, MBA, the chief commercial officer at EnsoData, explained the rationale behind the new service. "Our primary goal with EnsoHST Direct is to eliminate the operational friction that has historically capped the growth of home sleep testing programs while finally making multi-night diagnostics accessible," Cockrill said.

He added that by managing shipping, devices, and patient support, the service allows healthcare providers to focus on clinical interpretation and patient care. Cockrill stated the workflow helps overcome the limitations of single-night testing. It aims to provide a longitudinal picture of a patient's sleep health.

The service is now available for sleep programs and health systems to implement.
